it began with a question
what happens when the body becomes the storyteller?
The short experimental film that won the very first ATLFilmParty was The Importance of a House (Dir. Olamma Oparah). It posed one of the most alluring questions: what happens when the body becomes the storyteller?

That question lingers through nearly every film we screen. In JJ Versus (Dir. Nkemdi Obichi), the animated protagonist tests the limits of his body; in Eat Your Heart Out (Dir. Giovanni Tortorici), digital desire transforms into something tenderly physical. Again and again, our filmmakers use the body—its memory, movement, and vulnerability—as their narrative muse.
This next round of AFP, “Sex-Positive Shorts,” continues that exploration. Though the name nods to sexuality, what it really magnifies is how power and pleasure coexist—and how both can be reclaimed through art.
Which brings me to Muse World: the embodiment of those ideas. By pure divine timing, the day after ATLFilmParty lights up the Goat Farm, MUSE World will be hosting their sellout event - Late Night Tea at Commune (Sunday, October 26th - 7-11pm), to kick off their Power & Pleasure season back in ATL.
But Muse World is more than a pop-up—it’s a practice. It’s a space for tuning in to yourself, learning your rhythms, and understanding what your body needs. I went through a MUSE Mentorship last year, and it transformed the way I think about storytelling. This kind of inner work is vital to our creative community, which is why I’m thrilled to share that MUSE World will be offering a mentorship to the winning filmmaker of the evening—alongside a $500 cash prize.

Your voice matters most that night. Here’s how it works:
When you arrive, you’ll receive a ballot. We’ll watch the five finalist short films together at 8:30 PM sharp. Then, cast your vote in the designated area—ballots close at 10 PM, and we’ll announce the winner at 10:15 PM.
Between the screening and the counting of votes, meet new friends, grab a drink, and celebrate the stories that move us—body, mind, and soul.
